A senior administration official tells CBS News that the Obama administration will challenge Arizona's immigration law, confirming Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's remarks made in an interview Thursday on Ecuadorean television.
Despite that, though, CBS reported, a Department official continued to maintain
Friday that a decision on whether to sue was still under consideration.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer lashed
out at Clinton on Thursday night, calling it "outrageous" that the
government wasn't informed of administration plans before Clinton told the
reporter that a lawsuit was imminent.
Clinton had said in the interview:
"President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that
the federal government should be determining immigration policy. And
the Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit
against the act."
