Thursday September 2, 2010 marked 2 years since the Puente Movement first began daily protests against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. For the past 2 years community members have protested every weekday outside of the
Wells Fargo building in downtown Phoenix where his offices are located. They have done this to bring
attention to the inexcusable misuse of tax-payer dollars by Sheriff Arpaio that
could otherwise be allocated for projects that serve the community. Instead of
using facilities that Maricopa County provides, Arpaio rents 2 lavish floors of
office space in the Wells Fargo Building that have cost tax payers millions of
dollars over the years.
The daily campaign against Arpaio outside of the
Wells Fargo Building was successful and resulted in the February 8, 2010 Notice
of Eviction against Sheriff Arpaio from the property.
The Puente Movement continues to speak out against
Sheriff Arpaio not only because of his misuse of taxpayer money, but more
importantly because of his continued disregard for human rights.
And If you live in Phoenix you are welcome to join weekdays from noon - 1pm!
